Storrs Pond Webelos and Scout Overnight 25-26 April 2014

1.0 Overview

Each year, Troop 45 conducts one outing in which 2nd year Webelos are invited to participate. This outing serves as a way for the Webelos to become acquainted with Troop 45 and it allows them to complete one of the requirements for the Arrow of Light Award.  It also serves as a fun-filled, low-key overnight for the scouts. There will be an orienteering exercise on Sunday morning for scouts who need to complete the orienteering requirement for First Class.

Note: This year we will have all Webelosand this will be an ovenight for them as well. The Webelos parents will attend.

2.0 Concept

2.1 Description

On 25 April, we will go to the Troop camping area at Storrs Pond and Area 5 where we will introduce Webelos to Troop 45 through an afternoon of orienteering and manhunt.  We will meet at the Upper Parking Lot of Storrs Pond and hike to Area 5 for orienteering, then we will hike to the Boy Scout Area for manhunt. After the activities we will hike to the camping area. The Webelos and scouts will have separate patrol meals.

2.2 Schedule of Events

Saturday 25 April 2014

1300 - Meet at the upper parking lot

1310 - Hike to Area 5

1340 - Activites

1600 - Transfer to Boy Scout Area

1630 - Daytime Manhunt

1800 - Patrol meal preparation and camp setup

1830 - Dinner (chile or other 1-pot patrol meal - either over fire, or we can bring in a car-camping gas stove)

1900 - Cleanup

1930 - Campfire program and games

2130 - Lights out, fire out

April 26th 

0700 - Breakfast

0830 - Sunday Service

0815 - Break camp and sweep area

0915 - Depart for parking lot

1000 - Pickup

2.3 Expected Conditions and Difficulty

The weather forecast is for chance of showers with temperatures in the 50s during the day, and 30s at night. This activities are not overly strenuous, however we may encounter some mud and water on the trail. Water resistent hiking boots and raingear are advised.

2.4 Special Requirements

None. This outing is open to everyone. Parents of Webelos Scouts are also welcome to participate.

3.3 Costs

No costs for Webelos.
$10 per T45 scouts and adults to cover the food.

3.4 Equipment

3.4.1 Individual Equipment

A compass if you have one.

All particpants should carry a day pack with light hiking equipment including a water bottle, extra dry socks, raingear.. Class A or B uniform is appropriate. Hiking boots are advised. For the overnight will in addition to the above, need to bring a backpack with overnight equipment and clothing to be comfortable for a night outside in the 30s. Please refer to the Personal Equipment Li st in the library on this website as the basis for your packing.
