This is an all day outing where Scouts will practice climbing and belaying skills at an outdoor rock wall in Killington, VT called Deers Leap.
Advancement opportunities include selected requirements of the Climbing Merit Badge.
We will be meeting at the Hanover community center at 8:00. We will stop at the Green Mountain Rock Climbing Center in Quechee to pick up climbing equipment on our way to Killington, VT. We will hike up the cliff and take turns belaying and climbing. Scouts will practice knots that are used for climbing. All Scouts can learn to climb, but scouts must be 12 years of age or older to belay other Scouts. There are some short caves on the mountain which may be explored if there is interest. We will meet back at the community center at 17:30.

2.4 Special Requirements
A Green Mountain Rock Climbing Center Waiver must be signed by the parent of each Scout who is participating. Up to date medical forms must also be on file. Forms will be sent to all registrants. Open to all Scouts, Scouters, and parents. To prepare for this outing, scouts need to attend the indoor prep on September 14th, have the climbing merit badge, or demonstrate skills familiarity with Mr. Low
3.0 Administration and Logistics

3.2 Roster Closing Date: September 25th, 2013 ($40 deposit due) Cash or check made out to “BSA Troop 45”
Total cost $75 per person who is climbing or rappelling. No fee for adults or scouters to hike with the group and encourage climbers. Fee includes rental equipment and hiring AMGA single pitch rock climbing instructor. ($40 deposit due Wednesday, September 25th)
