1.0 OverviewThe University of Vermont's College of Engineering and Mathematics is partnering with General Dynamics and the Green Mountain Council, Boy Scouts of America, and the Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains offer to introductory educational opportunities for girls and boys, ages 11-17, in technology-related subjects. UVM faculty, Scout leaders, and engineers from General Dynamics will teach eleven enginering-related subjects so that scouts can earn most of the requirements for one merit badge during this event. Participants in this engineering program will be guests of the UVM College of Engineering And Mathematics Sciences Design Technology And Science Connection (TASC) Competition. This engineering educational opportunity will be held on Saturday 1 December 2012 in the Patrick Gym at the University of Vermont.Complete information and on-line registration is provided here 2.0 Concept2.1 DescriptionThere are 11 merit badges to choose from. 2.2 Schedule of EventsSaturday, 1 Dec 120800--Meet at Community Center. 0815--Depart for Montpelier. 1000--Registration - Tennis Courts - Patrick Gym at the University of Vermon.t 1000--After Registration, visit UVM TASC Middle School and High School Engineering challenges exhibit in the tennis courts. 1100--Registration closes. 1130--Lunch in the tennis courts lobby. 1215--Meet in lobby and board bus for Votey/Waterman. 1300--Presentations and merit badge classes in Votey and Waterman. 1600--Program ends. 1615--Depart for Hanover. 1745--Arrive Hanover. Note: The Electronics merit badge meets 1230 to 1700. 2.3 Expected Conditions and DifficultyThis is not expected to be a physically difficult day, but may make you think!2.4 Special RequirementsOpen to all Scouts in Troop 45. There are no skill prerequisites for this outing.Each scout must register online for this event. No payment is due at time of registration. However, the merit badge choices are filling up. Although this event is designed for Vermont Scouts, we have permission from coordinator Michael Lane to bring our Troop 45 Scouts. 3.0 Administration and Logistics3.1 Announcement Date: 01Oct123.2 Roster Closing Date: 30Nov123.3 CostsThere is a $10 fee for each course. It is due at registration. Only cash or checks will be accepted. If paying by check, please make it payable to "The University of Vermont/Scouts". This fee includes food and a t-shirt. Once registered, you will join other participants in your class and you will all be brought to the classroom.
