1.0 Overview

At Camp Bell this summer the Penguin Patrol nearly completed the Climbing Merit Badge. All they have left is the rappelling requirement. In order to complete the training for the badge, the patrol will go to the Dartmouth Climbing Gym where they will receive instruction in rappelling and have the opportunity to demonstrate rappelling to the merit badge counselor.

2.1 Description

We will meet at the Dartmouth Climbing Gym in Maxwell Hall at 4 pm Sunday. The gym is providing instructors and we will follow their direction during the activity. Our specific goal will be to complete requirement 11:
Rappelling. Do the following:
(a) Using a carabiner and a rappel device, secure your harness to a rappel rope.
(b) Tie in to a belay rope set up to protect rappellers.
(c) Rappel down three different rock faces or three rappel routes on a climbing wall. Use verbal signals to communicate with a belayer, and demonstrate good rappelling technique.
