1.0 Overview
This outing will consist of a canoe trip and overnight camp at Umbagog Lake near Errol NH on August 22nd, 23rd and 24th. On Saturday we will canoe the Magalloway River, Umbagog Lake and the Androscoggin River and on Sunday we may practice more advanced white water techniques in the rapids on the lower portions of the Androscoggin River.
2.0 Concept
2.1 Description
On Friday August 22, we will meet at the Simpson residence at 1:00 PM. We will review equipment and then drive to Errol. We will get to Errol at about 5:00 PM and check into our campsite. We will set up camp, eat dinner and then spend some time canoeing in the lake near the campsite. Prior to putting canoes in the water, we will carefully review the BSA rules for safety afloat and insure that all paddlers are prepared for the trip.
On Saturday morning we will haul the canoes to a starting point on the Magalloway River. From there we will canoe down the Magalloway River into Umbagog Lake, through the lake and into the upper portion of the Androscoggin River where we will take the canoes out and return to the campsite.
On Sunday morning we will take down our campsite and then at 7:30 or so, we will put on Class-A’s go to the Errol Diner for breakfast. After breakfast we will spend several hours practicing our white-water techniques in the rapids on the lower portion of the Androscoggin River. We will depart the area in the early afternoon and drive back to Hanover.
