1.0 Overview

This outing is a week long trek on the Long Trail.

2.0 Concept

2.1 Description

We will start at Pico Ski Resort, hike for seven days, covering 50 miles. We will end at Hapgood Pond in Peru Vermont.

2.2 Schedule of Events

Saturday 24Jun06
1300 -- Meet at the Community Center to check packs. Scouts should bring bikes to the Community Center and a change of clothes for the last day of the trek.

Sun 25Jun06
0900 -- Meet at Community Center. Distribute scouts and gear to vehicles going to the beginning of the trek.
0915 -- Leave for Pico
1015 -- Arrive Pico
-- Use alpine slide at Pico
-- Hike to Pico Camp (near Pico Peak ). Hike approximately 5 miles.

-- Hike from Pico Camp to Killington Peak.
-- Camp at Gov. Clement Shelter.
-- Hike approximately 7.2 miles.>br>

Tue 27Jun06
-- Hike from Gov. Clement Shelter to Saddle Mountain.
-- Clarendon Gorge (swimming).
-- Spring Lake (more swimming).
-- Camp at Minerva Hinchey Shelter.
-- Hike approximately 9.5 miles.

Wed 28Jun06
-- Hike from Minerva Hinchey Shelter to White Rock Mountain.
-- Cross Rt 140 at noon for food drop.
-- Camp at Little Rock Pond.
-- Hike approximately 9.8 miles.

Thu 29Jun06
-- Hike from Little Rock Pond to Big Branch.
-- Camp at Griffith Lake.
-- Hike approximately 9.3 miles.

Fri 30Jun06
-- Hike from Griffith Lake to Mad Tom Notch.
-- Bike Mad Tom Notch to Hapgood Pond.
-- Celebration Picnic at Hapgood Pond.
-- Hike approximately 5.1 miles.

Sat 1Jul06
-- Huge Breakfast
1000 -- Pickup at Hapgood Pond, Peru, VT.

2.3 Expected Conditions and Difficulty

The Long Trail is very steep at points. Be prepared for tough climbs and long days.

2.4 Special Requirements

Open to experienced scouts who have participated in the preparation process for this outing.

  • Class A Uniform for travel.
  • Bring a bike and a change of clothes for the last day to the Community Center at the pack check meeting 24 Jun.
  • Class B Uniform.
  • Equipment from the list provided. See Billy if you don't have one. Also see the standard Personal Equipment List
