1.0 Overview

Think of this as just another day hike, a walk in the wood, but with a twist. We will be give situations where we need to be resourceful and use our scout skills. We will most certainly use map and compass, but there are also challenges which our trail guide will spring upon us as we hike.

But treat it like any day hike.

2.0 Concept

2.1 Description

We will start at the end of Elm Street in Norwich, where the Appalachian Trail comes out of the wood. Meet at the trail head. We will hike through the wood, often off trail and come out at the end of Happy Hill Road four hours later. The hike will be about five miles total.

The area is gentle hills and woods with stream, ponds, marshland, etc.

2.2 Schedule of Events

Sunday, 17 May 09

1300 -- Meet at trailhead - AT & Elm St., Norwich (see map)
1530 -- Snack stop
1700 -- Finish at Happy Hill Rd - Pickup

2.3 Expected Conditions and Difficulty

It is a five mile hike, much of it off trail. We will be bushwhacking. We might be in mud. 30% chance of showers on Sunday.

2.4 Special Requirements

Open to all scouts, scouters, and parents.

There are no skills prerequisites for this outing.
