Troop 45 will go on a backcountry ski and snowshoe trip to the Dartmouth-Lebanon property, which is just south of the DHMC. This trip will also serve as and introductory winter camping outing. We will set up camp then go on a ski excursion to exploring the area. We can bushwhack to the Boston Lot lake which is a mile from our camp area. We will return to camp for the night, then on Sunday morning, pack up camp and head back to the cars.
The purpose of this outing is to train scouts in winter camping and cross-country ski skills in a backcountry setting.
We will meet at the old hospital parking lot, then continue to the Dartmouth-Lebanon property. We will then ski to our campsite to set up camp. Then we can go bushwhacking to Boston Lot lake. We will return to camp for the night, then on Sunday morning, pack up camp and head back to the cars.
Saturday
Be prepared for a cold night. There is about a foot of snow right now, so there might be some more by the 19th and 20th. The trail in is not hard at all. You follow a logging road then turn right onto a hiking trail. The bushwhack to Boston Lot is hard in some places, but there are some trail and stream-beds to follow.
Participants should be careful to bring everything shown on the Personal Equipment Checklist paying particular attention to the winter equipment. Cross country skis/boots/poles and/or snowshoes are also required. Climbing skins for skis are optional.
Scouts who wish to participate but who do not own all the necessary equipment should discuss their needs with Mr. Hoge on or before Jan 16th.
Patrols should plan for tenting and cooking arrangements.
Approved pending availability of another adult.
