Troop 45 Troop Committee Meeting 27 October 2008 The Hanover Boy Scout Troop 45 monthly troop committee meeting was held Monday, 27 October 2008 at the Richard Black Community Center in Hanover. In attendance were Yorke Brown (chairman), Tim Smith (Scoutmaster), Nick Collins (Lions Rep), and Caroline Tischbein. Yorke called the meeting to order at 7:04. The minutes of the meeting of 24 Sep were approved as distributed. STANDING COMMITTEE AND OFFICER REPORTS Treasurer (Norma Young by email): Current cash on hand $2,669.97 (including $342.00 of popcorn credits), plus $333.75 on account at the Scout Shop. Norma added $300 to the Scout Shop account as agreed at the previous meeting. She reminded Tim that he should call to verify that we overpaid for brothers at camp last summer. Advancement (Roger Thompson): No report. Scoutmaster (Tim Smith): Events from the previous month include the Old Fashioned Campout and Parents Night. The campout went well with 11 Scouts and 3 adults participating. Parents Night was quite successful and well attended, although attendance is still dominated by parents of Scouts receiving awards. The annual Hanover Scout Event is this coming weekend (1 Nov). Tim has coordinated with Matt Marshall on the use of Storrs Pond, so there should be no surprises there. He is expecting participation from Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts as well as our own Boy Scouts. Scouting for Food is the first two weekends of November. The Hanover Scout Event will take place after bag placement. We hope to conduct another Patrol Experience after bag pickup on 8 Nov. Finally, the Orange Cove-Mt Cardigan campout will be held the weekend of 22 Nov. Chairman (Yorke Brown): September roundtable was largely dedicated to Hazardous Weather Training. Rechartering packets were distributed, but there's been some kind of mixup so that ours was not available. Nick volunteered to secure out packet. OLD BUSINESS o Tee Shirts. Nick reported that the order of cotton tee shirts is complete and he has them in hand. Yorke reported that he had canvassed parents on the subject of polyester base-layer shirts and had received a very positive response. Nick and Yorke had met to go over samples of possible polyester shirts to choose a style. They settled on a Helly-Hansen model. Nick estimated the price at $29-$30. We agreed that Nick would confirm the price, Yorke would send out an announcement, and then Caroline would take orders. If we got it all done within a week, then Nick believed we could have shirts in hand in time for Orange Cove. **Action NHC: Confirm price on shirts. **Action YJB: Email an announcement and instructions for ordering. **Action CT: Take orders and payments for shirts. Send order amounts to Nick. **Action NHC: Place shirt order. o Tour Permit Compliance. Not much has been done on this item. Yorke has not yet contacted Kevin O'Leary to develop a driver credentials list. Nick has no new information on requirements. o Adult Training. Yorke reported that the district would be offering New Leader Essentials at roundtable 13 Nov. We agreed that Yorke would promote that event and that Nick would plan to present Scoutmaster Leader Specific training the evening of Tuesday, 18 Nov. o Parents Night. Tim completed the action item to promote Parents Night. NEW BUSINESS o Rechartering. Nick agreed to secure the missing recharter packet. **Action NHC: Secure the troop rechartering packet. o Uniforms. We had an informal discussion of the prospect of moving the troop towards a standard of full uniforming. The new uniform is very practical for outdoor wear in all seasons and all weathers. The new trousers, in particular, are both very practical and don't look like uniform pants, so they could easily replace pants that families are buying anyway. This means that asking families to buy the trousers is now much more palatable than it has been in the past. The new shirt is practical for winter outdoor wear, so it is now reasonable to insist on full uniforming for _all_ Scouting activities. With the new tee shirt, we have an activity uniform that works in winter and summer both. o National Jamboree. The centennial jamboree will be held in late July 2010. This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Nick believes that we need to make applications in the names of individual Scouts, and that the Council would fill its quota from those applications. The cost would be roughly $1,200 for the full eight days of the expedition. Nick agreed to secure detailed information on how to participate, and Tim agreed to promote the event in the troop. **Action NHC: Secure details on how to participate in the National Jambo. **Action TPS: Promote Jambo participation by Scouts in the troop. ADJOURNMENT The meeting adjourned at 8:14. The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, 24 November at 7:00 pm.
