Troop 45 Troop Committee Meeting 24 November 2008 The Hanover Boy Scout Troop 45 monthly troop committee meeting was held Monday, 24 November 2008 at the Richard Black Community Center in Hanover. In attendance were Yorke Brown (chairman), Tim Smith (Scoutmaster), Norma Young (Treasurer), and Caroline Tischbein. Yorke called the meeting to order at 7:24. The minutes of the meeting of 27 Oct were approved as distributed. STANDING COMMITTEE AND OFFICER REPORTS Treasurer (Norma Young by email): Current cash on hand $2,669.97 (including $342.00 of popcorn credits), plus approximately $300 on account at the Scout Shop. The issue of the discrepant camp payment is still not entirely resolved. Advancement (Roger Thompson): A Board of Review was held since the last meeting. Scoutmaster (Tim Smith): Due to a schedule conflict, Tim was in attendance only part of the meeting. He submitted his report by email. Troop events since the last TC 1) Hanover Scouting Event. In the end the Girl Scouts were not involved. The event worked well for the people there, but I think participation was disappointing. We had about 15 scouts and cubs involved. 2) Scouting for Food. Our organization as was not as strong as I think it could be. Still we had a dozen scouts involved. 3) Carl's Eagle Project. This has gone well. In two work-days the warming hut for the Etna ice skating rink was pulled down and replaced. The price seem to be well covered by a donation from the Etna Ladies Aid Society and from Home Depot. I think that only the bench needs to still be installed. 4) Cardigan / Orange Cove. Due to very cold temperatures for November, only the older scouts went on this outing. Seven scouts and three adults. We hiked up over Cardigan, practiced "roping-up". It was ~ 13-deg and blowing on top. We continues north to Firescrew, then on to near Cilly's cave, and down to Orange Cove where we camped. Despite the cold (I think about 10-degs), I think it was the most instructive camp out in awhile. Other items: o Matt Geason is nearly finished with his Eagle, presently working on his "Life Statement" essay. o We are planning another winter campout on Smarts Mtn in December. o We have had a series of "First Aid Events" written by Christian Passow this month. It has taken a bit of time for the boys to understand the exercise, but they are learning. o We are pushing the uniform. If a scout is out of uniform, they need to call home - every Wednesday. Chairman (Yorke Brown): o Council is requesting that we provide the number of hours worked at Scouting For Food. o This year, much of the rechartering effort is being carried out online. I'm having difficulty getting all recharter packet from the District, but will continue this effort. OLD BUSINESS o Tee Shirts. We have them, and need to distribute them. Some were distributed for the Orange Cove outing; others will be distributed at troop meetings. o Tour Permit Compliance. Yorke has started an Excel spreadsheet to implement the driver list. The new form is online and very easy to use. We were in full compliance for the Orange Cove outing. o Adult Training. We did not hold the training we had planned. We agreed to table this item until next meeting. o Rechartering. Our packet is still missing, but Yorke agreed to find out what is necessary and get it done. We do need adult applications for some leaders. Yorke is gathering these. **Action YJB: Complete rechartering as a top priority. o Uniforms. We agreed to table this item until next meeting. o National Jamboree. We agreed to table this item until next meeting. NEW BUSINESS No new business. Happy New Year.
