Troop 45 Troop Committee Meeting 23 February 2009 The Hanover Boy Scout Troop 45 monthly troop committee meeting was held Monday, 23 February 2009 at the Richard Black Community Center in Hanover. In attendance were Yorke Brown (chairman), Tim Smith (Scoutmaster), Nick Collins (IR). Yorke called the meeting to order at 7:09 pm. The minutes of the meeting of 26 January were approved as read. STANDING COMMITTEE AND OFFICER REPORTS Treasurer (Norma Young, by email): Current cash on hand $1,968.17. , plus $134.36 on account at the Scout Shop. The treasury has collected a total of $825 in registration fees and dues, but has paid the registration fee of $1,016.00. The Treasury collected $111.00 for the Banff Film Festival and reimbursed Tim this amount for purchasing the tickets. The treasury received a donation of $200 from the Etna Ladies Aid Society for Carl Tischbein's Eagle project, and reimbursed Carl this amount for expenses. The issue of the discrepant camp payment is still not resolved. Advancement (Roger Thompson): No report. o Yorke reported that Carl Tischbein has completed his Eagle project and is working on finishing his last few merit badges and his life statement. o Tim reports that Matt Geason has completed the last revision of his life statement. Scoutmaster (Tim Smith): o The Banff Film Festival was successful. o The troop attempted to build an igloo for the Occum Pond Party, but the warm weather and rain destroyed the preparations and initial construction. o Troop leadership elections are coming up this month. o The Long Trek will be held 26 Jul to 1 Aug. The type of outing has not been determined, but it looks like it will be a canoe trip. Institutional Representative (Nick Collins): o Nick suggested that we return to Hidden Valley for summer camp in 2010. He pointed out that in the past we've tried to alternate Hidden Valley with Bell so as to take advantage of the strengths of both programs. o We need Scouts to serve as judges at the Pinewood Derby. **Action TPS: Recruit three Scouts for the Pinewood Derby. o Nick suggests that if we continue to do the Banff Film Festival, that we offer an alternative program at the Community Center for those who do not attend the film event. Chairman (Yorke Brown): o Spring Campo is coming up 1-3 May. The organizers say that they will be insisting on correct and complete med forms from all participants. OLD BUSINESS o Tee Shirts. Yorke is still distributing shirts, and keeping appropriate records. The accounting still needs to be straightened out. o Adult Training. Nick conducted a successful training session on 10 Feb as scheduled. Six leaders from the pack and four from the troop attended, and completed New Leader Essentials. o Uniforms. Tim is still working on a plan to implement the new uniforming requirements. His goal is still to make it part of going to camp. NEW BUSINESS o Parents Night. Parent's night is coming up Wed 18 Mar. (NB: This date has changed to 25 Mar since the meeting.) We decided to ask Shawn Elder to conduct the FOS presentation. **Action TPS: Discuss FOS presentation with Shawn Elder **Action YJB: Alert Roger to the date and the possible need for BoR. o Eagle Court of Honor for Steve Desaulniers. The Desaulniers family has requested 24 May for the ECoH. The family is in agreement with a ceremony similar to the one we used for Hidde. Nick cautions that we will need a fireman on duty in the room in order to use candles. **Action YJB: Announce the date for the Desaulniers ECoH. **Action YJB: Prepare a formal invitation for the Desaulniers ECoH. o After several years of outstanding service, Kevin O'Leary has asked to be replaced as camp coordinator. Tim will attempt to recruit Marylou Robinson. **Action TPS: Recruit a camp coordinator. ADJOURNMENT The meeting adjourned at 7:50. The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, 23 March at 7:00 pm.
